Congratulations, Paul!

Congratulations, Paul!

The Chair of APCSS Dr Paul Rijken, was recently conferred with the PAI John Laing Award Professional Development Award 2017 (Catholic sector).

Throughout his career, Paul has promoted professional learning through his capacity to engage his whole staff with projects aligned with school strategic goals, as well as the encouragement of individual teachers to undertake further study. He has led by example, and is recognised in the Catholic system as an outstanding leader.

In recent years, through our Association, Paul has been leading a system initiative for school improvement through teacher feedback, which involves almost 30 schools. The project, through Curtin University, began at Cardijn College under Paul's leadership.

The John Laing Professional Development Award was first established in 2004 to recognise the contribution of principals who have significantly contributed to the professional learning of other school leaders. The Award is a non-competitive, peer nominated celebration of school leadership across all school systems Government, Catholic and Independent.

Paul has shown outstanding leadership and clearly meets the criteria for this Award.

Congratulations, Paul!

APCSS visits St Patrick's Technical College

Successful Day at St Pat's

APCSS visited St Patrick's Technical College at Edinburgh North on Wednesday 24th May for it's first meeting of Term 2.

Among other business that included input from Dr Paul Kilvert on matters financial, we were fortunate to have Dr Neil McGoran, Executive Director, SACE Board present to the gathering on new initiatives within SACE, and as well as strategies for schools to work towards improved outcomes for students.

Fr Pat Woods said Mass for the group at the conclusion of the business, and this was followed by a very pleasant drinks and nibbles session to conclude the day.

APCSS/DEPSLA Combined at Blackfriars

Successful gathering at Blackfriars

Approximately 75 Principals and DEPSLA members gathered recently (15th March, 2017) at Blackfriars Priory School.

APCSS Chair Paul Rijken and Blackfriars' Principal Simon Cobiac welcomed the guests. Paul acknowledged the long-standing Combined Meeting tradition that sees our leaders in Catholic Secondary Education in SA come together for mutual professional learning. The usual guest speaker focus for the sessions was this year replaced by an opportunity to share the learnings of last year's Collaborative Learning Projects on (1) Creative Learning Spaces and (2) Effective Use of Data for Whole School Improvement.

The very successful day concluded with a tour of the School, Mass in the College Chapel and Dinner in Frassati Hall.
